Ford's new Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible features 795 horsepower. It's a sibling to the Dark Horse SC coupe, but it's meant for the street, rather than the track. Orders open in the fall of 2026, with deliveries beginning next spring.
The Dark Horse SC convertible uses the architecture from the Mustang GT 5.0-litre convertible, with a magnesium tower-to-tower brace across the engine, providing strong but lightweight support. It also features a specially-tuned new version of MagneRide suspension, which uses adaptive dampers with magnetic particles in their fluid. These react to magnetic fields created by electro-magnets, changing the fluid’s viscosity almost instantly when sensors determine driving conditions. This delivers a smooth ride under normal conditions, but tightens up for improved handling when it’s time to have some fun.
"Both the Dark Horse SC coupe and convertible have been developed by our Ford Racing engineers," said Arie Groeneveld, chief engineer for Mustang Dark Horse SC. "But instead of prioritizing the convertible for setting lap times, we’ve engineered it to be the ultimate top-down grand touring machine."
The convertible will include new colour options including Precision Purple exterior shade, unique brake caliper colour, and Black Onyx and Space Gray interior.
The Mustang Dark Horse was introduced at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show, and was the first new Mustang nameplate in some two decades, following the Bullitt in 2001. The Dark Horse was aimed at street driving, while another model, the Dark Horse R, was offered in the U.S. but strictly for the track, as it wasn’t street-legal. There’s also a Mustang GTD, with up to 815 horsepower.
The Dark Horse SC was added earlier this year, and it shares a lesser-tuned version of the GTD’s engine. The convertible now rounds out that lineup with the appeal of top-down driving.
Orders for the Dark Horse SC convertible will open in the fall of 2026, with the car expected to arrive in showrooms in spring of 2027. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but in Canada, the 2026 Dark Horse SC coupe begins at $142,415.
